چکیده

Introduction Intravascular continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in critically ill patients represents a major advance to improve the quality of care and to decrease the nursing workload dedicated to glycemic control. However, the presence of several physical or chemical interferences can limit the accuracy of the blood glucose readings (BG) measured by the CGM, implying the need for a thorough validation process for each technique or device used for CGM.

Determining Blood Glucose Concentration using Near Infrared Spectroscopy: Early Findings

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is one of the diseases that have grown dramatically in today's societies. People with diabetes should continuously measure their blood glucose level. Continuous blood glucose measurement by commonly used methods is painful and difficult. On the other hand, mobile phone can be a useful tool for accessing physicians and telemedicine services more easily. The aim of...

Accuracy and limitations of continuous glucose monitoring using spectroscopy in critically ill patients

BACKGROUND OptiScanner devices, continuous glucose monitoring devices that perform automated blood draws via a central venous catheter and create plasma through centrifugation, measure plasma glucose levels through mid-infrared spectroscopy at the bedside. The objective of this study was to determine accuracy and practicality of the devices in critically ill patients attempting glycemic control...

Automated near-continuous glucose monitoring measured in plasma using mid-infrared spectroscopy.

OBJECTIVE There are increasing calls for a precise, automated system to enable tight glycemic control and to avoid hypoglycemia in an intensive care unit setting. OptiScan Biomedical has developed a glucose monitor based on mid-infrared spectroscopy that withdraws blood samples (120 µl) and measures plasma glucose. The goal of this study was to validate the performance of the OptiScan Model 500...

Mid-Infrared Photoacoustic Detection of Glucose in Human Skin: Towards Non-Invasive Diagnostics

Diabetes mellitus is a widespread metabolic disease without cure. Great efforts are being made to develop a non-invasive monitoring of the blood glucose level. Various attempts have been made, including a number of non-optical approaches as well as optical techniques involving visible, near- and mid-infrared light. However, no true breakthrough has been achieved so far, i.e., there is no fully ...
